Ingredients

Scale

For the Mozzarella Sticks:

12 mozzarella string cheese sticks, halved

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

1 cup buttermilk

1 ½ cups panko breadcrumbs

½ cup plain breadcrumbs

2 tbsp Nashville Hot seasoning

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp smoked paprika

½ tsp salt

½ tsp black pepper

Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Nashville Hot Butter Glaze:

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

2 tbsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

1 tbsp brown sugar

1 tsp paprika

½ tsp garlic powder

½ tsp salt

Instructions

Freeze the Cheese:

Place mozzarella stick halves on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 1 hour to prevent them from melting too quickly when fried.

Set Up the Breading Station:

In one bowl, add flour.

In a second bowl, whisk eggs and buttermilk together.

In a third bowl, combine panko, plain breadcrumbs, Nashville Hot seasoning, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.

Coat the Mozzarella Sticks:

Dredge each frozen cheese stick in flour, ensuring a light coat.

Dip into the egg mixture, then coat generously in the seasoned breadcrumb mix.

Repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating once more for extra crispiness.

Return the coated sticks to the freezer for another 30 minutes before frying.

Fry to Golden Perfection:

Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pan to 375°F (190°C).

Fry mozzarella sticks in small batches for 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown.

Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.

Make the Nashville Hot Butter Glaze:

In a bowl, mix melted butter, cayenne, brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, and salt.

Brush or drizzle over the fried mozzarella sticks for that iconic Nashville Hot flavor.

Notes

Make it less spicy: Reduce cayenne in the glaze for a milder flavor.

Make it air fryer-friendly: Cook at 400°F (200°C) for 6-8 minutes, flipping halfway.

Best dipping sauces: Pair with ranch, blue cheese, or honey mustard for a perfect balance of heat and coolness.
