Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

For the Filling:

6 slices deli ham (thinly sliced)

1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)

½ teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)

Instructions

Preheat Oven:

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare Puff Pastry:

Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle (approx. 10×12 inches).

If using, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard over the pastry.

Assemble the Filling:

Evenly layer the ham slices over the puff pastry.

Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the ham.

Add Italian seasoning if desired.

Fold and Cut:

Fold the pastry in half lengthwise to sandwich the filling.

Press down lightly to seal.

Cut the pastry into 1-inch wide strips using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.

Twist and Arrange:

Twist each strip a few times and place it on the prepared baking sheet, spacing evenly.

Apply Egg Wash:

Brush each stick with the beaten egg for a golden finish.

Bake:

Bake in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.

Serve:

Let cool for a few minutes and serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce like ranch, honey mustard, or marinara.

Notes

Make-Ahead: You can assemble the sticks ahead of time and refrigerate them for up to 6 hours before baking.

Add Veggies: Try adding thin slices of bell pepper or spinach for extra color and nutrients.

Cheese Variations: Swiss, provolone, or pepper jack are great alternatives to cheddar.

Freezing: Freeze fully baked sticks in an airtight container for up to 1 month. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for 5–8 minutes.

  • Dipping Sauces: Great with honey mustard, ranch, or even a spicy aioli for a gourmet twist.
